On the evening of Friday 15 June the School PTA put on its most ambitious fundraising event ever, a Summer Ball at the Rivoli Ballroom in Brockley. This really was a fantastic night, with most of us enjoying ourselves more than we ever could have imagined.
The band MT Pockets warmed us up at the start then the larger-than-life comedian and compère Judi Love entertained us and did a great job as our auctioneer. Later DJ Rory took charge of the decks and kept us dancing ‘til the small hours.
The final total raised was over £3,267 (after all expenses), which exceeded the target set by some way. All this, of course, goes towards improving the education of our children and we’re thrilled to know for certain that this sum will comfortably cover the cost of the Amazon Kindles the PTA was setting out to raise money for in the first place. The children, as our Head Teacher and Governors emphasise at every opportunity, are and must always be at the heart of everything we do.
So thanks to those who came up with this idea in the first place, to all the Fundraising Committee, to MT Pockets, Judi Love, DJ Rory, the Rivoli and to all the local businesses who donated to the auction and to the raffle. Thank you to the wonderful Longhorn Diner who offered guests delicious and heavily discounted burgers throughout the evening. Thank you also to our photographer on the night, Gus (some of whose images are included below) . . . and last, but not least, a really big thank you to all the parents, teachers, Governors, friends and family who came along to support the event and make it such a friendly, fun and successful night.
I can’t wait for the next one, so bring on the Christmas Ball!
