This is a nurturing environment where children, staff, parents and governors know each other and share a common understanding of the School’s purpose – to ‘aim high’ and through shared understanding of Gospel values, ensure that the potential of every child is fully achieved. Our children are happy, sociable, well-behaved and value our diversity, which enriches everything we do. We are recognised as ‘outstanding’ by the local authority and are confident this will be endorsed at our next Ofsted inspection.

Houses of Parliament

Yesterday, Year 6 visited the Houses of Parliament to take part in a workshop about making a new law.
The tour started with a visit to Westminster Hall, where Henry the 8th played tennis and many famous people including Nelson Mandela have delivered speeches.

The children were lucky enough to hear debates taking place both in the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The speakers were debating about elections and the secondary curriculum.

After the tour of Parliament, the pupils were given a workshop on making a new law. The children were asked to work in groups to decide on a new law. These ranged from no homework to more homes for the homeless. The children voted on the new law after a lively debate about costings and how it would be achieved. One of our pupils acted as the Speaker, who had to shout," Order, order".

The visit ended with a question and answer session with the Lewisham and Deptford Member of Parliament- Ms Vicky Foxcroft. She was asked why and how she became an M.P. and what she enjoyed about the role. The children were very engaged and are planning to write a letter to invite Vicky to come into St Mary Magdalen's.
