This is a nurturing environment where children, staff, parents and governors know each other and share a common understanding of the School’s purpose – to ‘aim high’ and through shared understanding of Gospel values, ensure that the potential of every child is fully achieved. Our children are happy, sociable, well-behaved and value our diversity, which enriches everything we do. We are recognised as ‘outstanding’ by the local authority and are confident this will be endorsed at our next Ofsted inspection.

Head Teacher's Newsletter

Firstly a Happy New Year and welcome back after our Christmas break.  I would like to thank all of you for the cards and presents you kindly sent to our staff - they are always much appreciated.

It has been a very busy start to the Spring Term, with some very special visitors to our school from the Seychelles.  We have welcomed Mrs Labiche's niece and nephew who have joined in the learning in Years 1 and 3.  They even experienced snow for the first time- which was great to watch.  They have shared their school life in the Seychelles with our pupils, who have made them very welcome.  We are hopeful that we can set up a link with their school so that we can keep in touch.

We have to say goodbye and good luck to Miss Ruggeri, at the beginning of February, who has been offered a new opportunity in her career.  She has worked hard running the porridge club and in the playground at lunch times.  We wish her well and hope that she keeps in touch with St Mary Magdalen's.

If you have been in the playground this year you may have noticed that we have moved the PE shed off the garden and into the playground.  We are continuing to improve the garden area behind the kitchen and Mr Bowes will be sending dates out for volunteers to prepare the ground, ready for planting.  We are hoping to grow some fruit and vegetables for the children to try and look after.

A quick reminder that there is a suggestion box in the school foyer for any new ideas that you may have for the school.  We are open to new fund raising ideas which will benefit all of our pupils but also for the children to have fun.  All ideas are welcome.

You may have noticed that we have a new board in the foyer to display our staff photographs, although we are waiting for the complete set from the photographers.

Lastly, I have to inform you that I am having an operation on Friday, which means I will be off school for a couple of weeks.  As you know I have two able Assistant Heads in Mrs Campbell-Hill and Mr Rimell who will be able to deal with any queries or problems that may arise while I am away.  I have also been fortunate to have Mr West, who has agreed to come into school in an advisory capacity.  Just to reassure you all, I will be in constant contact after a few days of recovery.

God Bless

Mrs Sally Saunders
